Mammography
A mammogram is an X-ray image of your breast used to screen for breast cancer to help decrease breast cancer deaths. A mammogram can be used either for screening or for diagnostic purposes. During a mammogram, your breasts are compressed between two firm surfaces in order to spread out the breast tissue.
CHI Lisbon Health also offers 3D mammography which 3D Mammography allows doctors to examine breast tissue one layer at a time. Fine details are more clearly visible, no longer hidden by overlapping tissue.
How often you should have a mammogram depends on your age and your risk of breast cancer. American Cancer Society recommends an annual screening mammogram starting at 40 years old.
How to Schedule:
Screening mammograms do not need a doctor’s order or referral. You will need a provider’s referral for diagnostic mammograms (if you have a breast problem such as a lump, drainage or change in your breast).
To schedule, call (701) 683-6458.
Instructions:
Do not wear deodorant, lotions, or powders to your exam. Please let your mammographer know if you have had breast surgery in your past including if you have implants.
